How to know when to fix the grasp pattern?
Here is a list of A FEW reasons you may want to adjust the students grasp pattern or create accommodations to support proper positioning:
- The student shakes their hand after writing a couple of words or after a short period of time coloring.
- The right handed student has wrist flexion, causing difficulties using intrinsic hand muscles.
- The students writing is NOT functional (i.e. illegible, slow, significant pressure, too little pressure, etc).
The more the grasp pattern becomes a habit, the harder it will be to change. The earlier the better if any of the above issues applies to your students.
